Take your measurements:

Measure the height (deck to where the new patio cover is to be mounted), the projection (distance from house wall out to the end of your new roof), and width (the total distance parallel to the house wall).

Get City Loading Specifications:

Determine the snow load requirement (lb./sq ft.) and the local wind speed requirement (mph).
